enrico macias .one of the great artists in the world ,he came with a new style of romantic songs and music in the 60s ...
i saw an interview with him [in french] when he was in egypt doing a charity concert at the opera house which was attended by many celebraties..
enrico is a born jew in algeria and was forced to move from algeria and went to france to launch a new life and a musical career..
he came to lebanon in 1963 and made concerts here and met with fairuz
and the rahbani's at thier house...
and made a lovely songs about the beautifiul lebanon ..titled beyrouth.
and by mid 60s he was accused by supporting the zionism ans israel
and he was blacklisted in lebanon and all of the middle east by 1967
his songs were forbbiden to be aired on radios in the middle east...
with the peace agreement between egypt and israel in 1979
enrico was invited for the first time in the middle east to sing in egypt at the cairo film festival and other concerts in december 1979
he continued to come to egypt in visits to sing and lesuire
i do not know if he is still blacklisted in lebanon or not ..but i think he is still...
god ..it's a shame to blacklist this great artist
sure it reflects a minimal mind
